Shahabuddin Ahmed Nominated for New President of Bangaldesh

Mohammad Shahabuddin ,a former justice and commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission, has been nominated for the New President of Bangladesh. The ruling Awami League has submitted the nomation paper for Mohammad Shahabuddin as its candidate for the post of the president. Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader along with his team submitted the papers for Shahabuddin to the Election Commission on Sunday.

Who is Mohammad Shahabuddin?

Who is Mohammad Shahabuddin is may be your question for now. First of all, Mohammad Shahabuddin alias Chuppu is a veteran freedom figher who fought in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. He was born in Pabna district in Bangaldesh. During the country’s liberation war, Shahabuddin was the convenor of Swadhin Bangla Chhatra Sangam Parishad in 1971.

Mohammad Shahabuddin was involved in politics since his student life. He was the then president of Pabna district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, a student of the ruling Awami League. He also served as the president of Pabna District Jubo League, a youth of the Awami League in 1974. Mohammad Shahabuddin was also imprisoned after the brutal assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.

Mohammad Shahabuddin’s Career

Mohammad Sahabuddin joined the BCS (Judicial) Department in 1982 and was elected as the General Secretary of the Judicial Service Association in 1995. He served as the coordinator appointed by the Law Ministry in the Bangabandhu assassination case. Shahabuddin also became a member of the advisory council in the last conference of Awami League.

Mohammad Sahabuddin also served as a District and Sessions Judge and a Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission. He also the former Chairman of the Judicial Inquiry Commission which was formed after the 2001 General Elections to investigate the killings, rapes and looting and anti-humanity activities committed by the BNP-Jamaat alliance leaders and activists.

Mohammad Sahabuddin is servived by his sone and wife Professor Rebeka Sultana, who is a former joint secretary to the government.

New President of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is set to elect a new president as the tenure for the incumbent president Mohammad Abdul Hamid ended this month. The ruling Awmi League has already nominated Mohammad Sahabuddin to replace Abdul Hamid. Who will be the new president of Bangladesh will be determined on February 19, 2023. If Mohammad Sahabuddin is elected as the New President of Bangladesh, he will be the 22nd president of the country.

Is Shahabuddin Ahmed New President of Bangladesh?

Actually, it is not Shahabuddin Ahmed who is going to be the new president of Bangladehs. Rather it is Mohammad Sahabuddin alias Chuppu who is going to be the new president of Bangladesh. Since Awami League has the majority seats in the pariliament, it can be said for sure that Mohammad Sahabuddin is going to be the bew president of Bangladesh after Abdul Hamid.

Yet, we have to wait for 4 pm today to know whether there are any other candidate for the president elections. If no other candidate submits his or her nomination papers, then Mohammad Sahabuddin is going to be elected as the New President of Bangladesh unopposed as a single candidate.
