Bangladeshi journalist Ilias stabbed to death in Narayanganj

Another journalist was stabbed to death in Bangladesh on Sunday night (11 October 2020) following his report against drugs, report several media.

The 40-year-old photo journalist, Ilias Hossain, was stabbed with sharp weapons by some drug peddlers near his house at the Jewdhara Adampur area in Narayanganj port city at around 9:00am, said police.  Ilias used to work as a photgrapher in the Narayanganj based local daily Dainik Bijoy. 

According to locals and police, several reports were published in Dainink Bijoy against the local drug dealers. The local drug peddlers was not happy with that and they targeted Ilias in a reaction against the reports.

A group of drug peddlers allegedly led by local dealers Tushar and Turya stabbed Ilias while he was standing on the sidewalk adjacent to his house at night at around 09:00pm (local time).

They bound photo journalist Ilias with an electric pole and stabbed him several times, leaving critically injured. Later, local rushed to Narayanganj General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.  

Additional Superintendent of Police (B Circle) Khorshed Alam said that they arrested drug dealer Tushar in this connection and were conducting drive to arrest the others.
